My services include a Montessori Playgroup from pregnancy through the age of three. This is a parent participation weekly class with 90-minute sessions which run for 8 weeks, along with a discussion group outside of class for parents covering a variety of topics. Over the course of the 8-weeks parents learn the art of observation, using an Observation Journal created for this experience. They interact with their child, while also observing myself, an experienced Montessori teacher, as I interact and introduce activities to the children. My services also include Montessori in the Home Consultation, and I am also a Birth Doula, so I bring many years of experience with pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum to families who choose this support. I have been a certified Montessori teacher for 27 years, and a Birth Doula , childbirth educator, and Assistant Midwife since 1990. I also offer Personal Teacher and Parent Mentorship, Positive Discipline workshops and groups, and birthing workshops.
Chesterfield Community Preschool will begin its inaugural school year on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. We are a dedicated, grassroots, Montessori, micro-school committed to guiding children in an authentic community atmosphere. We believe in an affordable, inclusive, respectful, child-focused education system and aim to provide an environment that meets the needs of the families we serve.
Our year-round, half-day preschool program is designed for children ages three to six years old. Our school days are Monday through Friday, 8am-12pm with a break each quarter. Class size is limited to twelve students and three faculty, providing a sense of community, partnership and individualization.
Our school is located within a Christian church and we are proud to share our faith with the children in our classroom, however, part of building an authentic and diverse community means also celebrating the different cultures, customs and religions of the families enrolled.
Our goal is to maintain affordable tuition in an effort to preserve the spirit of Montessori education. Tuition is only $500/month per child and requires an annual commitment. We operate with rolling admissions and will accept applications year-round, adding to our wait-list as needed. Please contact us for application information.
Class size is intentionally small and held in Beth’s home. We have an outdoor classroom space as well as an indoor classroom. Ample time for process oriented art experiences, as well as baking.
Little Acorn Explorers was founded with the mission of connecting children and families in a community of life-long learners and explorers. We are based on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, who was revolutionary in her understanding of children and vision for the world.
We are all connected, and the goal of Little Acorn Explorers is to provide a foundation for children that is rich with real, hands on learning experiences that promote their independence, their love of learning and fosters their sense of wonder. We do this by using classic Montessori materials as well as ample time for children to have connections with nature. Children need the opportunity to be children and engage in imaginative play and uninterrupted time to explore.
Little Acorn Explorers was founded by Beth Bayfield, who has her BS and M.Ed in Montessori Education from Xavier University. She has her American Montessori Society certification for ages 3-6, and taught in Montessori classrooms for the past 18 years in Virginia, Massachusetts, Indiana and Ohio before starting her business, Little Acorn Consulting, in July 2015. She serves as an adjunct faculty member in the education programs for two local universities.
