The Pearl offers a different framework for approaching education, one which fosters community and embraces inclusion. At The Pearl, students share control of their learning environment. They have a say in the rules, what is studied, and how learning takes place. This gives them a stake in their immediate classes—and often translates to them being more engaged in their communities. Students have an equitable opportunity for participation and learn to value and validate each other’s voices, creating a dynamic learning environment that builds a sense of community and brings out students’ cooperative nature.
Students have freedom and choices. We are a home-school partnership. We work with your family to create an educational plan that works for you. Students may explore a single course or participate in all the courses we offer.

Our school is a nature school held at Mission Bay in San Diego. Our beliefs and teaching styles reflect closely to Waldrof and Reggio Emilia. We believe in individualized learning and learning through experiencing the world around us. Our school uses the environment and ecosystem around us to teach students about their impact on the world. Our teachers are dedicated to providing academic support according to each child's personal needs. We have small ratios (1:5-8) and currently have only two classes (toddler and Pre-K/Kinder). We have the capability to add a third class with older students (1st-2nd grade) or another younger class.
Our school will be located on an urban farm. Our students will learn about animal handling, gardening, creating a sustainable living space, and expressing themselves through art. We have tons of space for hands on science experiments. Our teachers have degrees in Biology and biochemistry as well as over ten years of experience in art and music. Our goal is to develop a learning experience to build upon your child’s strengths and let them explore their interests. Our main teacher is credentialed and holds a Masters in Teaching. They will be creating curriculum and lesson plans to support the development of all the students in our class. We believe in cultivating grit, a positive self esteem, and a growth mindset in our students. Please contact me with your interest.
I am an experienced educator who is seeking to form a small group learning pod for the 2021/2022 school year.
This past year I ran a successful pod with PreK students (3-5 year-olds) but I am willing to work with students ages 3 years-old through 8 years-old. I have previously worked as an elementary school teacher (Kindergarten/1st grade) and I also have experience as a private tutor, a nanny and in daycare settings. work as a private teacher for a single family for the 2021/2022 school year.
I would provide lessons that include Literacy (Reading/Writing), Math, Science, Social Science, Art, PE and Music concepts. I also plan to incorporate additional creative activities into the lessons based off of the students’ interests. I am comfortable with developing my own standards-based lessons or alternatively I can follow a curriculum provided by parents.
