Horizon Outschool

Horizon Outschool Academy is a teacher-led microschool serving students through a unique blend of academic instruction, real-world experiences, and community-based learning. We believe students learn best when education is active, meaningful, and connected to the world around them. Rather than confining learning to a desk all day, Horizon regularly extends into the community, allowing students to explore businesses, museums, parks, government institutions, historical sites, and other educational venues as an integrated part of the curriculum.

Our program combines core academics—including language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and civics—with hands-on experiences that help students see the relevance of what they are learning. Students engage in small-group instruction, guided discussions, problem-solving activities, leadership opportunities, and practical applications of academic concepts. Learning is tailored to students' individual readiness and skill levels while maintaining a collaborative mixed-age environment that encourages responsibility, confidence, and personal growth.

At Horizon, our goal is not simply to help students master academic content, but to help them become capable, curious, and engaged members of their communities. Through meaningful experiences, thoughtful mentorship, and authentic learning opportunities, students develop critical thinking skills, strong character, and a lifelong love of learning.
